You are probably wondering what on earth does this subject mean? Well I will tell you. In the last two days three people that reported for jury duty in the District ended up not getting chosen and made their way over to Upstairs on 7th. One of them told me to tell everyone it makes “complete sense” to overcome your rejection of not being chosen by shopping. I have to say I could not agree with her more! 🙂
The cornstarch relates to another customer that told me a great way to get a stain out. I thought I would pass that along to all of you. Take some dishwashing detergent and put it on the stain. Then make a paste of a tiny bit of cornstarch and rub it gently in. Leave for 15 minutes, wash it, and the stain will vanish. Just call me Heloise. Or her!
The movie The Politics of Fashion: DC Unboxed has been sold out for the big showing next Tuesday. My name is not above the title and I did not get creative control. HOWEVER, and this is way cool, I AM in the International Movie Data Base, or as we in the industry call it, the IMbd. If you google me on it, it says “herself.” Kudos to Elaine Mensah for making this movie. It takes a lot of work!
Maya Angelou passed away yesterday. I got to meet her when my daughter Katy organized a program with her as the main speaker when she went to Skidmore College. She got to go with the President of the school to pick her up and introduced her to an overflowing crowd. It was an incredible special event. When Dr. Angelou was done speaking, she sat down to thunderous applause and then jumped up and recited my favorite poem: Phenomenal Woman which I used to close out every speaking engagement I had back in the day when I ran Dress for Success Cleveland. Well, Maya Angelou, you were one phenomenal woman yourself! Rest in Peace.
I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. It sure was beautiful here. We went to see Locke at E Street and it was very entertaining. The fact that the entire movie takes place in a BMW with one actor talking on the phone to different people was very interesting. People did laugh when the credits ran and there was a set designer and a costume designer though! We also took Dylan, our little 3 year old to the train in Cabin John Park which she thought was the greatest thing ever. It takes so little to give them joy at that age. And we went to Zaytinya for dinner and had the best dinner but also the best waiter EVER: David. We ate outside where there is no noise and it could not have been better. We love to eat outside in the summer at all the restaurants that are too noisy when we eat inside!
Oh, clothes: the Planet jagged sweater is here in all the colors including the black and navy, the tank dress from Planet is the perfect summer dress and it washes perfectly. If it is too long, you can just have your seamstress cut it and you are set to go.
Lots of summer clothes are here so come over. There are lots of great summer dresses in cotton and linen and lots of sweaters too as well as tops BUT this Saturday I am off to Chicago for little Harrison’s second birthday. I know, I can’t believe it either. And yes, I will be boring you all with pictures next week. I just cannot help myself!
Have a great weekend and I will see you soon.
