Happy MLK Day!

Happy MLK Day!  We are open if you want to hang out with us today!
Please note that we have been asked to close on Inaugural Day, Friday, January 20th.  But we will open Saturday at 8:30 am.
Here is the latest from the Women’s March on Washington committee: the rally will begin at 10:00 am and we will march starting at 1. It is over at 5:00.  So far it is still ending at the White House but if that changes I will let you know or you can go to their website www.womensmarch.com for all the latest updates.
As far as what you can and cannot bring here is the latest information: Please note all bags may be subject to search. Backpacks are not permitted. Bags should be no larger than 8″x6″x4″. Specifically for people who would like to bring meals, each marcher is permitted one additional 12″x12″x6″ plastic or gallon bag.  For marchers who have medical needs or for mothers who need baby bags or breast pumps, one clear bag or backpack no larger than 17″x12″x6″ will be permitted and subject to search (colored transparent bags are not permitted).  Do not bring anything that can be construed as a weapon, including signage with any kind of handle (e.g. a wooden stick).
We will open at 8:30 and you may bring your handbags, luggage, backpacks etc. to the store. We will stow them in our back office so they will be safe. We will have drinks and snacks throughout the day so you are welcome to come and go, use the store as your meet up place, use the microwave if you need to heat hand warmers, your place to share Ubers to the Capitol or the Metro on our block for the start at 10 and the 5:00 finish.  The store will stay open until 6:00 and we are only three short blocks from the White House.  If you are coming down we suggest you do not drive as you will not get close as there are many streets that will be closed and there is no guarantee that the barricades in front of most garages will be gone. These barricades are going to be put up starting at midnight on Wednesdayso do not leave your car or you will not be able to get it until Saturdayor maybe even Sunday.
The entry to our store is on E STREET NW between 12th and 13th Streets.  There are flags on the building above our door.  For Uber use this address: 1299 E Street NW.  If you are using the Metro to get here get off at Metro Center, walk out the F and 12th Street exit and turn right.  We are on the corner right next to Au Bon Pain.  Our phone number is 301-351-8308.  I would really appreciate it if you would not post this on Facebook as we received a lot of scary emails when we first announced we would do this.
Yesterday we received an invitation from Nora of Restaurant Nora to gather at the restaurant on Sunday, January 22nd.
Katy and I are going for sure and it would be so much fun to have everyone on this list come too!
Nora was just awarded the James Beard Foundation LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD and it will be bestowed on her at the May 1stceremony.  An award very much deserved for 38 years of organic, healthy food before anyone was doing that!  And thanks to her for her much appreciated loyalty to Upstairs on 7th.  One of the many accomplished and lovely women that stop in and make our days here so bright.
Please feel free to invite any of your friends and family to our event but again, please do not put it on Facebook.  At the end of the day we are all in this together and we have to stay hopeful and do our share to stay involved just as President Obama asked us to do on Tuesdaynight.
Ok, here is a little store news:  I mean I have to write a little something about the store, right?  We have an instagram account. Go to @unpstairson7th
Comfy is here so that means we have short sleeve tees in white, black and khaki.  If you need them and cannot come in, call and I will put them aside because you know we have already sold a zillion of them. We do have other plain and stripe tees from Kule, and boxy as well as fitted tees from Planet in 12 great spring colors.
Below is one of Comfy’s new tunics
Spring skirts and shirts have arrived from Dress to Kill including this adorable denim and white shirt.  We also have a group of special priced Dress to Kill dresses, pants, skirts, jackets and shirts.  Each piece is $370 instead of her usual $410 and $420.  A dollar is a dollar as my dear father used to say!!
Giada Forte has some really gorgeous spring coats and lace tops and dresses.
I LOVE this spring coat! (see the skirt that goes with it in the background)
We have the wood beads in plain and painted from Jianhui.  Wear doubled, or in several strands, they are the perfect necklace. We also got $50 dollar bracelets that are really good gifts.  Both plain and painted.
We also got these candy bead necklaces from Maria Calderara that I LOVE!  You can wrap them as bracelets and as necklaces with the elastics hanging down.
The Planet Trunk Show was the best one yet and this dress was the star.  It comes in size one and two and the cost is $290. If you want to reserve one feel free to call.  We will have them back in the store on Thursday.
The shoes by the way are from Vince and they only have solids this season. They are not as good as the black and white ones and they are really wide so you slip out of it unless, of course, you have a wide foot! Ellen Degeneres has a style like this but I couldn’t find them in any store except one pair size ten at Lord and Taylor.  Who knew she made shoes?
We still have lots of good items on sale and we are now at 40% off so there are bargains to be had my friends.
Hope to see you soon!
