Thanks to everyone that has asked me about my annual Academy Award email as I didn’t realize how many people read it! We watched it in New York and then had the Ray Harris trunk show so now is the first time I have had to write up my impressions.
So here goes: I LOVED Jimmy Kimmel as the host. I generally do not watch his television show so I was very impressed with how really funny he was. I loved his opening monologue especially when he was talking about our most overrated actress, Meryl Streep and I loved his tourist bus bit. It reminded me of Ellen serving pizza!! The candy falling from the rafters was also good and I liked that they showed the stars eating twizzlers. Stars are just like us. I am ever hopeful that Billy Crystal will do it one more time, however.
Note to those of you getting this for the first time: I no longer can use the pictures off the internet because they are private property to Getty so if you want to see the pictures that are really good go to the internet, mine are just taken off the television which accounts for how bad they are.
Everyone’s favorite was Hailee Steinfeld’s dress. Me, I thought it looked like a really bad shower curtain. Maybe it was prettier in person.
My favorite was Ruth Negga’s gorgeous Valentino red dress and that crown of jewels. She looked like a movie star deluxe. Stunning.
I liked Viola Davis’ dress too but really the only award I cared about was hers because I have never gotten over that she didn’t win for The Help. Even though she lost to Meryl and they are really good friends from doing Doubt together, I just thought she was amazing especially when she has to say goodbye to that little girl. I get tears in my eyes just thinking about it.
I know everyone hated the yellow dress that Leslie Mann wore but it looks like our store so of course I loved it.
I loved the dress Lin Manuel Miranda’s mother wore. She is such a beautiful woman and I think she has this aura about her that radiates. She’s a psychologist so maybe that is it.
Isabelle Huppert looked beautiful in her Armani pink sparkly dress. It looked so good with her hair.
I thought Taraji Henson’s dress looked gorgeous as did Kirstin Dunst’s. They were my favorite black dresses. They both had great diamond necklaces on but I think best jewels goes to Pharrell Williams in Chanel. It takes a brave man to wear that kind of jewelry but he is so cool that he gets away with just about anything including weird hats!
Favorite earrings were Nicole Kidman’s, Charlize Theron and Christy Teigen.
(I didn’t crop Keith Urban out because, well, he is adorable!)
In the category of more is more but is it enough the clear winner is Janelle Monae. She looked beautiful I thought and again, another crown, but it was a little much even for the Oscars. Just saying.
I loved Trudie Styler’s dress. Simple and elegant. I didn’t crop out Sting because you know, he is Sting.
Okay, here are my least favorites: Octavia Spencer, Jessica Biel, Dakota Jackson, (worst hair) Naomi Harris, and Emma Roberts. The top on Emma’s dress was too big and what is with everyone wearing dresses so deep cut on top? The tape must be the worst!
All in all I thought it was a good Oscars, loved the exciting ending! That was something wasn’t it? Everyone involved can say they were part of the most extraordinary moment in Oscar history and that is something!
So that is the wrap up for Oscars, 2017. Let me know what your favorites and worst dressed picks were.
Thanks to everyone who came to the Ray Harris show. It was our best ever and we were all so happy everyone got to see his amazing new collection.
