Please join us on Wednesday, June 21st and Thursday, June 22nd to see Miriam Heydari’s fabulous fall collection. She will be in the store so she can customize some of the details. Her dresses were some of my favorites this summer and fall is even better! She has many fabrications that we don’t always have so this is your chance to see them all. She will have some pieces you can take from the show so we will have some instant gratification! If you want to come after the store closes, let us know and we will stay! Can’t wait for you to see the first of fall.
On Thursday, July 12th, we are having our final Off the Rack: Conversations at Upstairs on 7th for the summer. We are so excited to have author Karin Tanabe, a former reporter for Politico and now the author of her fourth book, The Diplomat’s Daughter, a story of love in the midst of World War II. Her novel The Gilded Years about the first African American woman to attend Vassar, is on the Washington Post’s must read summer list for college counselors. We will have the book here or if you want to read it before the event, Karin will sign them. While I was doing some research on her I found this article about how her daughter was switched at birth for a few minutes, long enough to be fed by someone else! How scary is that? RSVP as soon as you can as you know these nights fill up fast.
As happens most days we meet some very interesting women who have the most fascinating jobs. The other day a woman came in who owns Boomerang Boat Tours and now we want to organize a party on their yacht. Is anyone up for that? Let us know! You can go on their site and read about their cruises as well as their Pirate Ship for kid’s birthdays! It sounds like so much fun! Check it out at www.ridetheboomerang.com and let me know if it is something we should do!
For a very long time we have discussed doing a recycle event and we finally found someone who told us how to do it in an organized way. I am going to send an email later today to let you know how we are going to do it and all of the dates. I am just finishing up the charitable part of it so when I do, at the latest tomorrow, I will send out the email. So look for it and I am apologizing in advance because I know it is a pain in the neck to get two emails from me in a week. (Although I do try to make them interesting and funny!) I bet you didn’t even realize I did not send one last week!
I am sending this picture again because we just have a few of these fab necklaces left and I am finding that I wear them almost as much as my Annemieke’s. By the way, Annemieke is going to be in the store on August 16th and 17th so mark your calendars now!
ALSO do not forget the Planet trunk show is August 2nd and 3rd so mark that down as well! The collection looks really really good! If you want to see it online go to www.planetbylaureng.com and hit collections and then hit fall. If you have any questions or know you want something now email me as some stock is already in their warehouses. These are my two favorite sweaters and vegan jacket that really does feel like leather with suede on the inside. As real as it gets without being leather or suede. Isn’t technology awesome! No animals were killed in the production of these fab faux pieces!
These torn sweaters are the perfect piece to put over a dressy dress like one of Ray Harris’ to make it look like you are wearing a skirt with a matching tee. Making the dress very casual and getting extra wear out of them. You could take two sweaters, two dresses, a belt, a boot, a dressy shoe and a few necklaces and you have a week of travel outfits that could almost go in a big tote. What could be better or easier?
Speaking of Ray, we got more Ray Harris collar scarves in. A lot of these are one of colors that are no longer available and perfect to wear to the movies or should I say refrigerators that show films? Why do the movie theaters have to keep these theaters so cold? Of course these can also be ordered in any of the 50 colors he is now using.
On a very sad note I am sorry to write that our friend and associate Dyanna Delaney has passed away. If you are wearing one of our spiral rings it is because Dyanna told me they were cool. If you are wearing Trippen shoes, it’s because Dyanna told me they were the best shoes to go with our clothes. If you ever loved one of our windows at any of our stores when we first began through our move last year it is because Dyanna did them. In her baby finger she had more style than I will ever have in my whole body. From clothes to architecture, art, furniture, accessories, she knew the best lines, the best places to see them and even the best magazines to study. She was a brilliant photographer and fabulous tennis teacher. But most of all she was a beloved wife, mother and adored grandmother. And always to be missed, friend. Rest in peace beautiful Dyanna.
