The Power of One at Upstairs on 7th

My title for today’s email refers to two different topics.  The power of
one group of amazing kids to get a bill passed so fast it made Governor Rick Scott’s head spin and the power of one mother faced with a heartbreaking diagnosis that spurred her to make that heartbreak a little less for the mothers that would follow.
Of course I am talking about the group of Parkland kids who had enough of guns and shooting sprees when it visited them and the March For Our Lives that will occur here in our city on Saturday.  They are saying that a half million people may come here. (At least a few thousand to see George Clooney. Ok, I have to throw in a little levity because the subject is horrific. Another shooting in Maryland too!)
We like to do our part whenever we can so we will open early at 11 on Saturday and close at 6 or when the last guest leaves. The March ends at 12th Street so you will be close to us.  Please use our space to meet up with friends and family before or after the March. We will have lots of snacks and drinks and a nice warm space to get out of the mob. Dress warm as it is supposed to be cold on Saturday.
Our other power of one refers to our next Off the Rack: Conversations at Upstairs on 7th guest Pat Furlong. She was a young mother of two girls and two boys when her boys were diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 1984. Herself a nurse, married to a doctor, she didn’t accept “there is no hope and little help” as an answer and went on to become the WORLD’s authority on this disease.  Pat is the Founder and CEO of Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD), the largest nonprofit organization in the United States solely focused on Duchenne muscular dystrophy (Duchenne). Its mission is to improve the treatment, quality of life, and long-term outlook for all individuals affected by Duchenne through research, advocacy, education, and compassion. A sought after speaker around the world on the subject of what one person can do, Pat has given a TED talk that literally moved us to tears. When you hear what has occurred in just the last month you will understand what the power of one can accomplish. With health care on just about everyone’s agenda Pat Furlong is the perfect guest for our time.
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, April 17th when we welcome Pat to Upstairs on 7th.  You won’t want to miss it! Six o’clock for dinner as usual and the conversation starts at 7. Although this event is free, Please RSVP so we have enough chairs and food and most importantly, champagne!
Rundholz collection has started to arrive with a beautiful blouse and jumper and the rest of our Rundholz Black Label has also arrived.  For those of you who love their pants we have them in navy and black, the ones that have a little stretch in them.  We also have a fantastic red jacket that also has that bit of stretch.  For vacation these pieces cannot be beat as they pack so well and are basically care free. The Rundholz Collection pieces are a little dark but they are so lightweight that in September when it is still hot they will be the perfect pieces to have.

There is a jacket/blouse to this dress below and we show the dress over a leopard skirt.  A great idea for layering instead of a plain slip.

We got in a new line for us, Serie Numerica, that looks a lot like Rundholz and mixes well with it. They have lots of tops and these fab spring dresses.
Lots of Sun Kim and Comfy in.  The tees are in chartreuse, black and light gray. Amanda Bond, Kedem Sassson, Moyuru, and Giada Forte are here too!
Speaking of tee shirts we have reordered for about the tenth time this great one from Planet.
This tee comes in lots of colors.  Celadon, gray, black, white, geranium and they made it a little longer so that if it shrinks it is still long enough. The sleeve is perfect right below your elbow.  (Isn’t it great that the span from your elbow to your wrist stays relatively good all your life?  That and shoulders.)
One of our customers asked for one of our watches that we used to have so we got some more.  They are still the watch I wear everyday.  And they just look so good with our clothes.
Hope to see you Saturday for the March. If you are not coming to the March and just want to shop, please do obviously!  Be sure to come in on the E Street NW side or call me and I will come to the door on 12th and E to let you in.  The Au Bon Pain left their space in the middle of the night so we have no alternative route at the moment! If you are coming by Uber put the address in as 1299 E Street NW and if you are coming on the Metro, get off at 12th and F and just walk down to the corner of 12th and E to get here.
Have a great rest of the week, hoped you enjoyed your snow day, and hope to see you at Upstairs on 7th soon!
