Hope everyone had a great Columbus Day weekend. Does this make it officially fall? Even though it is 86 and humid out?
We ask because we just got Ralston and Creare and they both have some wonderful coats and dresses in their collections. If ever there was a season to buy coats, as we discussed before, this would be the year. A lot of them are what our mothers used to call “car coats.” Remember that? It meant that they were the best length for getting in and out of a car. In Cleveland, where we both grew up, this was particularly good because in snowy cold Cleveland people drive from their living rooms to their kitchens! Since we walk so much here it is good to have long coats also to prevent the cold but the “car coat” is good too because it looks good over a more dressy outfit or dress. Everyone who has 20 coats in their front hall closet raise your hand. We see you!! Ok, go donate one and come in and get a new fabulous coat here at your fall and winter coat headquarters!!
This car coat from Creare can be worn in a lot of different ways because of the self scarf and here are two of them:
This is Ralston’s reversible coat. It comes with the neck scarf too.
And here is Ralston’s newest latest dress. It’s jersey so the weight of it is perfect. You can put a tee shirt underneath it for extra warmth and to change the neck line. Or throw a black sweater over it. The necklace is by Jianhui and can be separated so a few strands can be a chunky bracelet.
Speaking of Jianhui, a few people have bought his necklaces lately and did not think they would use all of the strands as most of them come with either 10 or 20 strands. They are keeping the number they will wear and then giving the rest of the strands as gifts. It is a really good idea, isn’t it?
Here is a jacket or tunic from Ralston in really gorgeous fabric.
We got in a GORGEOUS indigo blue velvet skirt from Giada Forte and these pants that are amazing. The color has to be seen in person to really appreciate them. Gold, black, indigo blue and mustard. Stunning.
One of the most popular pieces from Planet this season is their scuba fabric “jegging.” They come in sizes 1, 2, and 3 and they look like black jeans in style but leggings in fit. We have them in all the sizes if anyone wants a pair. They really look great on too. It is shown with the nu blazer in scuba.
On Saturday, October 20th we would love for you to bring your daughters and granddaughters or your friends for a special event with the owner of I Made That Bag who we met in New York. Below is a picture of the piece Lorna helped me create and which I now use to keep all my receipts. It is really fun and the end product is good looking, sophisticated and personal. You can pick the color and the product you wish to make and you can personalize it in any way you want. Lorna has lots of logos, designs and letters for you to pick from to make your piece as personal as you want it to be. It only takes 30-45 minutes from start to finish and she will also bring kits in case you want to get one as a gift for someone. If you could let us know if you can attend any time between 12-5, we would love it. And we would love to meet your kids.
And now for a little explanation about our incredible speaker series Off the Rack: Conversations at Upstairs on 7th. We love having this series. It gives us another way to use this great space to hear from women (and our dear only gentleman so far Peter Hart) up close who are helping to shape our city and our country. While we do not pay our guests, we do have a lot of expenses associated with the evenings from rentals for our chairs, catering, and our helper Elizabeth, that we hire from Occasion Caterers in case you ever want to hire this lovely woman. We do expect to get some last minute cancellations because of work or illness and we prepare for that but we had 16 people RSVP to Diane Rehm that not only did not attend but did not even let us know. We had a waiting list for this event and they could have come if we had known but since we didn’t, we turned them down. One time last season over 20 people did not attend one of the talks even though they had RSVP’d because it was raining. I know you have all had events or parties so you know what we are talking about. Please please please, if you RSVP, come and join us but if you cannot, please let us know as soon as you can even if it is the same day so we can let our standbys know in time. Thanks so much for understanding. We really really appreciate it. And we cannot wait for April Ryan.
This Rundholz Dip jacket is so great and we have it in black as well as a deep mustard color.
We have some of the most interesting, most accomplished people shopping with us who have won Pulitzers and two people that have won the MacArthur Genius Award. We have had people that have won the Cooper Hewitt Design Award too. But now we have a customer who is a friend from high school who is married to one of the scientists who just won the NOBEL PRIZE for chemistry. How cool is THAT? Congrats to George Smith and to Margie Sable-Smith who was always very smart and proved it by marrying a Nobel Prize winner!
We have lots of fabulous sweaters from Skif, Planet, Rachel Comey, New Form Perspective, Rundholz and many more of our designers. Come visit us soon.
