First, thank you so much for making the Ray Harris trunk show our very best ever. You ordered over 90 pieces because it was so special. His best collection ever. We really appreciate it and Ray was thrilled. It is one thing to have buyers like a collection but when actual customers buy it there is something much more satisfying about it. Most designers do not get to see that part. So thank you, thank you, thank you!
We are so excited for our upcoming events and we know you are going to be too.
Mark these dates down so you don’t overbook yourselves;
Wednesday, October 23rd
Join us as we welcome our next guest for Off the Rack: Conversations at Upstairs on 7th, the HILARIOUS Carol Schlanger, an award-winning playwright, actress and performer. She is an Obie (Off- Broadway) and Humanitas (Television) nominee, a recipient of Los Angeles Dramalogue Critics’ award for both performance and writing (Theatre) and placed 1st in 2010 Alliance of Los Angles Playwrights’ monologue slam. She has appeared in major motion pictures (Don’t Mess With the Zohan, China Syndrome, The Frisco Kid ) and is an artist in residence with the Jewish Women’s Theater. A former sit-com writer, she is in great demand as a storyteller and has performed her written works throughout Los Angeles. Her latest book Hippie Woman Wild is fantastic and she will sign copies which we will have in the store.

We are so excited to welcome the inimitable Mike Berman to Off the Rack. Ladies, it is not often that we ask a gentleman to the conversation seat but we could not resist asking Mike to visit. A native of Minnesota he came to Washington as an aide to then Senator Walter Mondale and when Mondale became our Vice President Mike served as his White House Counsel. He is a founder of the Duberstein Group, a powerful lobbying firm. He is an author and self publishes the very interesting and entertaining newsletter “Washington Watch” which mixes political commentary with fantastic restaurant reviews. Mike was active in every Presidential campaign from 1964-2004, and every Democratic convention from 1968-2004. For many years he played an active role with the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. He has served on multiple boards, served as mentor to many men and women and frankly, he knows every single person in the city. Seriously. He is so completely interesting and captivating that you will be so glad you got to see him.
Since we do not have a conversation in December I cannot think of two more interesting people to have to end our fall season. As always we serve dinner starting at 6 with the conversation starting at 7. While it is free we ask that you RSVP and as always, we have limited space so let us know if you plan on attending as soon as you can. Feel free to invite your friends.
Last week Katy and I were in New York buying for spring but we took a few minutes to stop in Saks Fifth Avenue because everyone was talking about how fantastic their renovation is. It is gorgeous and you should go and see it for yourself. On the second floor Gucci has their makeup collection and since so few stores carry it we went to see their counters. They were serving champagne and had a photo booth so we went in and the lighting for these pictures was so amazing we could not believe it. I mean, talk about no wrinkles. It is the kind of light I wish would follow me around all the time. We seriously did not want to leave. So we stayed and took twenty pictures. Here are a few.
It got us to thinking: let’s get a photo booth for our holiday party! So we are! Tuesday, December 3rd join us for our holiday party where we will toast the season and take great pictures in the booth!! More details to follow.
If you have not done any of your fall shopping because it is still 90 degrees out, now would be a good time. We have lots of every one of our clothing designers and we have new Monies and Samuel Caroux jewelry in. We also have the new Nach earrings in as well. Here are some pictures.
Monies pendants
Monies earrings and bracelet.
Samuel Coreaux light earrings in great colors.
See the little squirrels and elephants. So fun.
Love the fish and the birds.
There’s lots more from these designers so come and open all the drawers!
There was a huge delay in the last Rundholz shipment but it should be here any day now.
Katy was so busy putting out some of her amazing journals and presents that have come in for the holidays that she did not have time to write her Miscellany column, but look for it next time!
Come and see us soon!
