Comfy! Bangles! & Gifts! (and more) Oh My!

Katy’s Miscellany (is not so Miscellaneous this week):
Firstly, if you were not able to join us last Thursday for our Off the Rack with Carol Schlanger, we missed you but we had her sign her memoir “Hippie Woman Wild” so you will be doing yourself a big favor to get one. It is elegant, touching and SO funny. If you need a laugh (and don’t we all,) you will want to read this book.

We received a beautiful shipment of vintage bangles and necklaces from the Carole Tanenbaum Vintage Collection. For those of you who have seen pieces from Carole’s collection before, you know how special and impeccable her pieces are. This group is extra special because I was able to hand select the pieces and the bangles come from Carole’s private collection which she generally never parts with. Here is a picture just to entice you. The bangles will be on the floor on Tuesday, so something to look forward to!
Gifts are in full swing, so get your gift-giving list ready! If you need something to write your gift list on, we have that, too! Beautiful and funny ones from a new vendor called Open Sea, which is made by a very clever woman in Brooklyn.
We received shipments from Christian Lacroix which includes a new version of their playing card deck and a new double-sided puzzle for those of you who collect those. We also received Pepin Press which does the great placemats, wrapping paper books and writing paper. They also produced a gorgeous collection of Van Gogh items for the holidays, which are all here. They are a Dutch couple so they know their Van Gogh.
WMS and Co., made some really interesting calendars, memo pads and stamps that are also here and excellent for gift-giving or for your own desk.
We are also, as my Mom says ” not in the book business”. Just a few that I thought would make perfect gifts for the person on your list who has everything and is difficult to choose something for.
And lastly, for this week, there are the mistaken lyrics coasters which are made of cork and printed with, well, mistaken lyrics. A set of six is guaranteed to make you laugh six times. There are four different sets, so that’s 24 laughs. Let me give you an example from the “Flower Child” set:
This is the dawning of the age of Asparagus, the age of Asparagus! Asparagus! Asparagus! Did you laugh? If you didn’t then you really need them.
I have some other things up my sleeve for the end of the week (one of a kind velvet handbags, anyone?!) I’ll keep you posted on all of that next week.
One outing suggestion: The National Museum of Women in the Arts opened a tiny little show in the first floor gallery of Dutch Women Artists and it is stunning. I want to move my bedroom set in and live in it. It is up until January and you should go visit it when you can. It’s tiny and glorious.

Off the Rack: Conversations at Upstairs on 7th November 5th
We look forward to introducing you to Mike Berman, author of “Washington Watch”, founder of one of the cities most important lobbying groups and campaign participant in every election from 1964-2004. We’ll talk all things Washington with Mike at 7pm, following a light dinner at 6pm.
Please RSVP to Upstairson7th@aol.com if you haven’t already done so or if you would like to bring a friend let us know.  We can always make room.
See you soon, Katy
Now my turn!!
We have the spring/summer samples from Dress to Kill to show you.  There are the usual gorgeous shirts, dresses and pants and skirts in the most fabulous fabrics.  We absolutely loved the collection.  You can order any style in any fabric so you will really have one of a kind items.  Her madras and plaids are fantastic.  Lots of checks too. We will have the samples until the second week in November so you have time to come and see what is in store when the snow is gone and the sun shines again.
Comfy and Sun Kim are here. We have tee shirts in navy, black and white in both the crinkle and the mesh.  We have the wire collar vest, the long slip in black or white and the wide ankle pants in black, white, navy and black/white pinstripe.  Stock up while we still have the chance!!
If you are looking for a new coat this season, we have lots of them in every weight and fabric.  One of my favorites is the Rundholz Dip jacket that is really three jackets in one!
The puffer part is buttoned inside to make this a very warm cozy jacket
Or you can wear the puffer without the red overlay.
Or you can wear just the red part as a windbreaker.  It looks great with all of your new Rundholz and Dip pieces.  And it is perfect for a NATS game!!
When I was in Israel a few years ago I ended up at a shoe show and I got these shoes.  I have lived in them and wanted another pair.  They showed their line in New York so I ordered another pair of black and a pair of red and a pair of gray.  We do not sell shoes here per se BUT when they come in if you would like to try mine on and/or order a pair or two we can certainly do that.  They run pretty true to size and they are the absolute most comfortable shoes ever.

For those of you who get the New York Times the NYTimes Magazine’s 1619 project was an amazing issue.  The writer, Nikole Hannah is coming to DC so for those of you who might like to attend here is the link:

Enjoy the week and stop by and see us.  Between our beautiful fall collections and our new and interesting gifts there is a lot to see!

Congratulations to Katy on becoming a docent at the National Museum of Women in the Arts!  That art history degree paid off!!
