The dress in blue with the pearls was worn by the woman that did the makeup for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. I thought her dress was really gorgeous. I loved Regina King’s but you would have to be her to carry it off. And she sure did. I liked Renee Zellwinger’s dress too. Yuh-Jung Youn looked very elegant and she was hilarious, flirting with Brad who was a producer on Minari.
The other red dress that was stunning was Amanda Seyfried’s. Every time the camera scanned the room you saw her. It reminded me of Gwyneth Paltrow’s pink dress showing up all night long the year she won.
The other thing that caught my attention was that the people who were in London were actually up at what was 2 in the morning when it started and 5:30 when it ended. That must have taken some doing. Talk about jet lag.
I loved Tyler Perry’s speech and also that the people that take care of the Motion Picture Home received recognition. Nice to have an Oscar in the lobby for all the people that live there. And all the people that take care of them.
I watched the pre show and the reason that Frances McDormand howled like a wolf was that Michael Wolf Snyder, the sound mixer on Nomadland, took his own life a few weeks ago suffering from depression. Ironically his father is a Psychiatrist. They did a story about him and he was a genius. So sad. Only 35.
I loved seeing Rita Moreno, could she look any better at her age? She is 89!! 89 people! She looked amazing. I met her once back stage in Cleveland after a concert as she was very good friends with the people I was with. She was so funny and really lovely. How about the trailers for West Side Story and In the Heights? Cannot wait to see those films and I hope to do it in a movie theater. That may be off in the future however.
Some of the speeches were so sad including the Danish filmmaker that lost his daughter in a car crash, And some went over the time normally allowed but because there were no musical numbers they could. All in all I thought it was a really great show. I may be the only person on earth that thinks so, though. Of course another year without George, but what can you do?
What did you all think? Let me know!!
