Hi Everyone!
This should really be titled “What DIDN’T We Eat Last Week?” because we are still full! And the banana pudding has nothing to do with it!
We are also still full of gratitude to Ray Harris for visiting and to all of you for coming to see us and supporting the store. It was so much fun to be with all of you and help you choose beautiful pieces and colors for next season. It was a whirlwind of a few days and we are so glad that everyone enjoyed themselves so much.
If you missed the show, never fear, we placed an order for the most popular and newest pieces, so in early August you will have a chance to have them again.
Fall is going to be all about color, color, color, so all of you who are trying to break your habit of wearing all black, we will have lots of ways to ease you into it or to make a bold move should you choose to! (Don’t be scared, we have lots of black too.)
If you visit us this week, you will see lots of fruit, water and vegetables around because we ate our way through the city last week.
We wanted to support Jose Andres, so we had dinner at Jaleo (one of Ray’s favorites,) and China Chilcano. Ricki and Ray had dinner at Tosca because, Tosca is Tosca.
Our two new favorites are Maiz64 and L’Ardente, so we took Ray to both and we can’t say enough about the service and food at these newer to DC restaurants. Maiz64 is as close to feeling like you are in Oaxaca at a fine dining restaurant as you can get. The tortillas and tortilla chips alone are worth a visit and the esquites is like eating a bowl of love. So delicious and the staff couldn’t be more friendly.
L’Ardente is owned by the team behind The Unconventional Diner and is amped up Italian. Their oven is magic and they have figured out how to make the most basic of vegetables sublime. There is also a 40 layer lasagna if veggies aren’t your jam. The service is impeccable and the owner Eric, who used to own Hu’s is having a blast as a former retailer now restaurateur. He designed the interior of the restaurant and it is so beautiful, complete with a cheeky sign for the bathroom which we will keep a surprise. Go see it for yourself and have the beet salad. Trust us!
