Upstairs on 7th: If Not for Katy. . . . .

If not for Katy I would be writing to you to tell you that Upstairs on 7th is closing. But because she let me talk her into coming here 8 years ago, as of January 1, Katy will be the owner of U7. It is time for me to SEMI retire!

And by SEMI I mean I will be here everyday!

Just kidding. I WILL be here every Monday for sure as that is Katy’s day off and the rest of the days are still under discussion but I will be here several afternoons a week and we will let you know which days as soon as we figure it out. I WILL still be going to New York to buy, and by that I mean I will still be giving my opinion and eating snacks all day. Most of you know Katy has done all of the buying for the last two years so you are in good experienced hands. For those of you who like UCF, Labo Art, Alksander Manamis, Giada Forte, Natalie Martin, Rachel Comey, Another Archive and many more, all those lines were found by Katy. All the innovative gifts have all been found by her very thorough research as well.

I will still be here for our Speaker Series and any other events. So I am not going far.

One easy change is a new store phone number which we are in the process of getting. We will let you know the information as soon as possible.

Other than that bit of news. . . . .

We are closed this Thursday through Saturday but if you have guests or you want to come in on Sunday, let me know and I will meet you.

Since this is my last Thanksgiving email to you I want to say to everyone who is reading this, everyone who has shopped here even just once in the past 16 years, and those of you who have given us so much support: I cannot thank you enough.

They would have to invent a new word for lucky to describe how I feel about you all. You are the most accomplished, smart, genuine, stylish women in our country, and you’re funny! Because of your support for the store I have had the opportunity to meet women that help run our country, women who make the lives of people all over the world better, and I have met a woman who single handedly changed the lives of young boys and their families who have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Two of my dearest friends are, according to someone who would know, two of the best Environmental attorneys in the country (who knew?) and they were our very first customers before we were even a store and just a little shop at Zenith Gallery. I have had the opportunity to meet lots of judges who wear the best clothes under their robes, and the Vicar of the National Cathedral who on any given Sunday wears Rundholz under her robes. Philanthropists, educators, CEOs, non profit executives, Congresswomen, Senators, journalists, Pulitzer Prize winners, a Nobel Laureate, an Ambassador, and several MacArthur Genius Award honorees have all walked through our doors. Amazing artists, lots of therapists, doctors and nurses, politicians, writers, a poet, and teachers have enriched our life here beyond measure. One thing you all have in common: you are all interesting. U7 became exactly what I hoped it would be: a place where women could come together and talk, shop, share ideas, and form friendships. For all of that : thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Our designers and our reps have all been incredible to get to know especially Ray Harris who is just part of our family now.

I’ve been to a party at the White House and I got to sit three rows behind President and Michele Obama at a television taping. I have met President Biden and I have even met a few Republicans. I was polite.

I could go on and on and as one person said: I should write a book called: “I’m Not Important But I Have Met a Lot of Important People.”

I know you are all going to support Katy as she takes charge. The best job I ever had was watching her and my son grow up into exactly what I hoped: kind, hard working, interesting and thoughtful adults. The front row of that bit of theater was by far my best seat ever. (well, until I had grandchildren).

I would be remiss if I didn’t say COME SHOP WITH US FOR THE HOLIDAYS.

And now for the memes:

We are here Monday through Friday from 11-5 and Saturday from 1-5.

You can see us live Tuesdays and Fridays on FaceBook at 2:00 pm and watch reruns any time on our Upstairs on 7th page.

We hope to see you soon and until then: Happy Thanksgiving!

Ricki
