Zac Posen dress, movie stars and Jackie Chalkley!

Sit back and relax because this is going to be a LONG ONE!!

Where to start?

This past weekend I went to the wedding of my college friend’s son who is a producer in LA. For all the news that is NOT true, go to the internet. Here is who attended: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield, Zac Efron, Will Koppelman (Drew’s new husband) and lucky me, Tovah Feldshuh and her very lovely husband Andy at our table. I could actually listen to her voice all night and day. They are both very interesting and great dinner companions.

I will clear up one rumor because it is beyond preposterous. The tabloids are saying that Kristen Stewart wore jeans. No, she did not. She wore a very lovely black dress. All these kids sat in the back and I know because I did too and they did nothing that drew any kind of attention to themselves. I never even saw any of them on the dance floor. They took pictures with anyone who asked, and all the little girls could not have been more excited than when Zac stood and took pictures with all of them. I am sure the picture is from the after party but none of the adults stayed for that.

The REAL STAR of the night was my friend Jan, who wore probably the most beautiful mother of the groom or bride dress I have ever seen. I mean it was beyond spectacular. She got it four years ago and it was designed by Zac Posen. It was well worth the wait to wear it because seriously I may never get over it. I wanted to show it to you because this is what real couture looks like. As beautiful as this dress is and as pretty as Jan looked, that is how beautiful she is on the inside too. So Jan, you get the bottom picture this week because beside the gorgeous bride and groom, YOU were the real star!

Yesterday we went to see The End of the Rainbow about the last few months of Judy Garland’s life. It was very good and Tracie Bennett, the actress that plays Judy is so good in the part that you almost think you are listening to Judy Garland herself. I would definitely recommend it. It is hard to imagine that Judy Garland was only 47 when she died. Tragic.

How many of you have come into this store over the years and said to me: this reminds me of Jackie Chalkley’s store? And, I cannot tell you how many times I have said to someone that I like what they are wearing, and they respond by telling me it is from her store. She has been closed for at least nine years because that is when I moved here, and when I first complained that there was no place to shop people used to say that I would have loved her stores. In my mind I pictured her as being really old because I knew that she had been in business for many years and had retired. The other day this beautiful woman my age or younger came in and we introduced ourselves. She told me that she used to be in retail and I realized that this had to be, you guessed it, THE JACKIE CHALKLEY!! I cannot tell you how excited I was to FINALLY meet her! Very soon after a customer walked in and she immediately went right back to work helping her. It was so much fun to have her here and I made her promise that the next time we have an event she would come so that you could all see her.

On a very very sad note, Barbara de Jounge, the designer of our pin necklaces, the felts and the magnificent sweaters has become very ill so I am praying that she will get better soon. I cannot tell you how much I love her and respect her creative talent.

Oh, yes, the store. I almost forgot in all this news!! The summer sale is on and there are lots of great things. A few new amazing dresses have come in and new scarves from Shawlsmith too.

Hope you have a great week and hope to see you soon!

Ricki

Here I usually post another picture. I do have pictures of the stars from the wedding but if I put them up they will also appear on the internet. If you want to see pics, come in and I will show them to you.
