Katy’s Miscellany premieres and Planet and Rundholz are at Upstairs on 7th!

Welcome to a new part of our blog: Katy’s Miscellany!

Hello, “the daughter” here (I secretly love that some of you call me that instead of my name.) For some time we’ve been thinking that I might add my two cents to the weekly email. After all, I am my Mama’s kid, so I am curious about lots of the same things (fashion, art, movies, the Royal Family, etc…) Much like her, I also love to share what I find and love, so this is the spot where I will tell you what I’m excited about in the shop and outside of it.

I LOVE the summer and warm weather, but I have always preferred fall/winter clothes to spring/summer. This is to say that I’m trying to figure out how I can wear Ray Harris’s faux fur pieces and a hat coming from Rundholz (that I’ve been dreaming about since we ordered it,) while still holding on to the waning days of summer. If you know a way, let me know.

In the meantime, there are some pieces that have come in that can be worn year-round. We received perfect black pants (tapered for those of you who are looking for slimmer silhouettes,) from both Megan Park and Ganni. We’ve had both of these styles before and with only one in each size, you may have missed them. Don’t let that happen to you again!

Our fall shipment of Natalie Martin arrived last week. We have already sold through some sizes of the Taylor top (which is a U7 exclusive,) but you still have a chance. If you’ve never experienced the magic of the Taylor, this blouse makes the most blah day so much better. It hides everything without looking like it’s trying too hard. It came in five prints this season and there are some matching skirts and a few dresses that I thought could help transition you into fall.

We received a gorgeous shipment of Lizzie Fortunato jewelry today. The Fortunato twins were inspired this season by a trip to India, converging traditional craftwork and old-world beauty with the 21st century. What I love about LF pieces is that they are made in the US, are luxurious without being fussy, and the materials are beautiful: think freshwater pearls, mother of pearl, semi-precious stones. The Fortunato’s design their line for “women who dress to tell a story”. Sound like anyone you know?
The above is just the first taste of fall. I’m looking forward to many more things, it’s just that we bought them in February so I have no idea what they are (except that Rundholz hat.)

I am off to Amsterdam to see Annemieke and make some jewels with her (and eat French fries with mayo in a cone with a wooden fork.) We’ll see where our collaboration goes this time, maybe some of the pieces will show up when she comes for her January trunk show.

I’ll take the Chunnel to London (I’ll admit I am freaked out about the underwater part.) I cannot wait to spend time with Ray. He is the best tour guide and as those of you who have met him know, he has boundless energy, so we’ll be seeing lots of theater, art and shops. I’m also going to get the first peek at his spring/summer collection. Eek! The other highlight of the trip is that I’ll be taking an art class for five days at the Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts, learning how to make paint using a 14th century method. So, if you need paint at the end of the summer, I might be your woman. Unless the Prince sees my work and thinks I should become the court paint mixer. It could happen!

I’ll see you all in the shop and here on the blog when I’m back at the end of the month. This was fun.

Thanks “Daughter!”
We are getting over 100 pieces of Rundholz today.  There are 8 boxes so give us till about 1 to have it up and out. If anyone wants to come after work let me know and I will wait for you.  I can stay until about 7! Always one of my favorite days when Rundholz gets delivered!  We have the samples from Planet in also so you can see everything at once.  Leslie will be here on Thursday and Friday from Planet so if you missed the fall show the first time here is your chance to come in, see it all, and be styled by Leslie. No one knows Planet better. Leslie also has the ability to have pants lengthened and resized so if you are a little taller than average you might want to stop in so you can have pants that actually fit! But if you can’t make it to the show or don’t need Leslie’s help, come any time before 6 on Friday and you can see all the samples as well as lots of stock we already have for you to take home immediately.   We have had lots of orders already because the vegan leather, scuba, and sweaters are really strong this season.
Love this sweater!
Amma, Kedem Sasson’s smaller sized line, will also be here today!
Here’s a good idea: go to our Facebook page, Upstairs on 7th and “like”  the page.  Then whenever we get in new lines we will post it and you will find out asap! I am trying to be better about posting!
And then this happened!
For no apparent reason last week the window in our dressing room area just cracked.  And of course it happened at 5 in the afternoon so poor Katy had to stay until 10 at night to get it boarded up.  Lucky me was having a day off!!
See you soon!
