So much to say about the Oscars, but first some shop news and reminders!
Ray Harris is on his way!
We have both picked out new pieces for fall already if that is any indication of how much we love the new collection. Ray’s fleece is back which is a big favorite, especially because for this season it is available in…NAVY. So gorgeous. There are new dress shapes that are beautiful, a new pleat that has an incredible texture and stretch, a printed crinkle, and lace is also back, but in an all cotton fabric that will be a year-round staple.
Want to see it? It will all be here Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We will be here 11-6 on Thursday and Friday (come be our Valentine!) and on Saturday from 12-5.
Reminder for upcoming events. Both events have some seats left, but not too many. RSVP so that you don’t miss out!
Off the Rack: Conversations at Upstairs on 7th with Robyn Wagman and Marilee Fitzgerald, owners of Estate Of Mine Organizers on Tuesday, February 25th still has some seats available. We will serve a light

Please RSVP to upstairson7th@me.com to reserve your seat.
A friendly reminder that April 21st is our annual Small Piece Art Show. We will again focus on local artists from around the DMV and their work. If you would like to participate as an artist, or would like to suggest an artist for us to consider, please email katy@thecuratedgroup.com
One more thing: If you had the chance to see our Off the Rack with Mike Berman then you heard about his blog which we both love. It is like Harper’s Index, but WAY better.
If you visit www.mikeswashingtonwatch.com. you can see the most recent edition and sign up for future posts. It’s really a treat for your inbox!
Now on to the Oscars!
We watched them together this year in NYC, while eating amazing Chinese food from Phillippe in Ricki’s room at the Maritime Hotel with Annemieke (we love all three of these things).
Let’s start with the trends, because as we know from watching The Devil Wears Prada hundreds of times, what we see in the magazines and on the red carpets eventually ends up in our closets.
Worst trend:
R: Lots of weird sleeves and Timothy Chalamet in a track suit.
K: Thigh high slits and cut-outs. I think there is a time and place for both, but they didn’t translate well to this event.
Best trend:
R: Brad Pitt. Oh, he is so pretty.
K: Baby pink. I think this color looks beautiful on everyone and I am excited to see it in the coming seasons, hopefully in sophisticated and interesting ways.
When I grow up I want to look like:
R: Jane Fonda because I’m almost the same age!
K: Geena Davis. She looked so poised and so flawless.
Person that always looks amazing that failed me:
R: Laura Dern. I didn’t like her dress or her makeup and usually she is fantastic. But she won, so who cares?
K: Brie Larson. I always look for her in the newest Rodarte creation, so I was disappointed to see her in this Celine look. I loved the color, but the thigh-high slits and the cape that looked like it weighed 10,000 lbs. were a bit much and yet, it also managed to look boring.
Best Hair and Makeup:
R: Scarlett Johansson, but really Jennifer Lopez for the Super Bowl. OMG, she looked gorgeous. Best hair clip to Saoirse Ronan, but no one saw it because her peplum was so huge!
K: Lucy Boynton. She always looks doll-faced and I thought the pearls in her hair were a perfect way to make her look head to toe Chanel.
Best Jewelry:
R: Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ diamond necklace wins!
K: I’m choosing Scarlet Johansson and Hildur Guðnadóttir whose dresses were jewelry!
Worst Dressed:
R: Saoirse Ronan in Gucci. Where to look first? The top didn’t go with the bottom and she’s a young woman who looked really fussy. And then there was Sandra Oh. It should’ve been Sandra Oh-NO!!!
K: Rooney Mara. I may be choosing her because I am jealous that she gets to look at Joaquin Phoenix all the time. She could’ve have been my pick for person that failed me, because I love that she mostly wears black, is not afraid to take risks, etc., but this McQueen just felt depressing, ill-fitting and not flattering to her frame. And she never smiles. She can do way better and she should smile, because…JOAQUIN.
Best Dressed:
R: Cynthia Erivo in Versace, Regina King in Versace and Natalie Portman in Dior were my favorites. All elegant and sophisticated. Extra points for Natalie’s cape with the snubbed women director’s names. Kudos to whoever thought that up because that was a huge topic of conversation.
K: Joaquin, who wore the same tuxedo to every event this season. It was boring and it was a statement about the environment, it didn’t necessarily make him look his best self, but I love him. Now you know.
Natalie Portman, who I generally think takes herself WAY too seriously, was flawless. Her hair, her makeup, her jewelry, the dress, the cape, it was all perfection. I don’t think anyone else even came close, though America Ferrara was one of the prettiest pregnant women I’ve ever seen.
That’s a wrap!
We are so sad that awards season is over!
But, we’re really excited for the Ray show and to see you all this week.
See you soon!
