Upstairs on 7th: Thanksgiving 2020

We have arrived at Thanksgiving. It’s a good thing that the holiday is always on a Thursday because so many of us still have no idea what the date is!
This email is not about new arrivals, hilarious memes, or what we have to sell (you can join us for Facebook Live on Monday for that!) This is a simple message to wish you a happy Thanksgiving, no matter how you are celebrating this year and to thank you.
We are so grateful to those of you who are reading this for muscling through the many challenges that faced you this year. We know that many of you have suffered imaginable losses and yet you still made the time to make us smile, laugh, showed us support and friendship. So many times when we were a little bit down, you brightened our day with a visit, an email, or a Zoom call in your Upstairs on 7th tops combined with your pajama bottoms.
We have had many twists and turns for our little store, but we are still standing (albeit with fancy masks on and not so fancy plywood on our windows,) and we are so grateful to you for that. Thank you for remembering us when you needed masks, gifts, a little pick-me up or retail therapy. Thank you for making purchases for things that you might not get any compliments on except from your family dog or cat because they’re the only ones that would see them. Thank you for buying gift certificates for friends and introducing new clients to us. Who would have ever thought that we would get to meet new friends in the middle of all of this?
We’re sure many stores think they have the best clients, but we will fight them on that. We can’t wait for there to be a vaccine and a treatment so that we can slowly begin to gather again. We talk about Off the Rack evenings ALL THE TIME. We can’t wait to have one.
Until then, we’ll keep on trucking. When the pandemic started, we heard a fellow retailer in New York describe how she was just going to visualize herself as the taproot of a tree: immovable because her roots were so deep in the ground, that nothing could shake her or force her to topple over. We’ve taken the same stance and all of you surrounding us kept us upright. And let’s face it, the two of us are nothing if not stubborn. Just ask the other one.
Once you are full of turkey, we are here by appointment tomorrow and Saturday and back on Monday-Friday of next week 11-5.
Have a joyous holiday. We’ll be wearing our best U7 duds for ours and being thankful for all of you and stuffing. Because stuffing is what Thanksgiving is really all about.
